Since 7 October 2011, more than 3,000 WiFi hotspots (access points) have been established in the indoor public areas of some offices of the agencies of the Executive Yuan to provide citizens with free basic WiFi access service. This service is called iTaiwan and provides 1Mbps bandwidth for the public to access the internet. The WiFi hotspots are chiefly available in the indoor public area of local tourism attractions, transportation nodes, cultural and educational facilities, and government offices to provide citizens the ability to search for information over the Internet in case of emergency or when they are conducting business at government offices.
The Executive Yuan has cooperated with the Taipei city government, New Taipei city government and Tainan city government to establish a two-way user account roaming mechanism between Tainan Free Public WiFi Access (Tainan-Wifi), Taipei Free Public WiFi Access (TPE-Free), New Taipei WiFi Access (NewTaipei), and iTaiwan. The public only needs to complete registration on iTaiwan network to access all iTaiwan, TPE-Free, New Taipei, and Tainan-Wifi hotspots for accessing the internet over WiFi.

"Taipei Free" covers most public areas in Taipei City. Indoor public areas covered include the City Hall, administrative centers of the 12 administrative areas, public libraries and their branches, Taipei City Hospital and its campuses, Taipei MRT stations and Taipei City Mall; outdoor public areas covered include main roads, residential and commercial districts and densely populated areas. The Wi-Fi access service is offered as hotspots.

This service plan is designed for 3G Pre-Paid Card customers who have short-term internet demand. 3G Pre-paid card subscribers, after applying for this service, can have unlimited internet usage and specific mobile service within valid period.
There are three different rates for the plan:
In Taiwan, dial 539 (free of charge) hotline anytime during the valid period for inquiries about service activation and termination time. We provide auto system SMS reminder before/after service expiry as well as auto cut-off data connection once service expires.
